# Reading Source References

When the AI answers a question, it can cite the source material it used. These citations are called **Source References**.

## Review the evidence behind an answer

Source References help you move from "this sounds right" to "I checked where this came from."

1. **Click the Citation:** Clicking `[1]` will instantly open the **PDF Viewer Panel** on the right side of your screen.
2. **Reviewing the Evidence:** The Viewer Panel will load the exact page the AI derived its answer from and highlight the relevant text.
3. **Verify:** You can read the surrounding paragraphs to verify the AI's interpretation.

<Tip>
  Using Source References allows you to trust the AI's output without leaving
  your conversation window to manually search a 100-page document.
</Tip>

## When to use source references

Source references are especially useful when you want to:

* verify a claim before reusing it
* inspect the wording around a quoted or summarized point
* compare what the answer says with what the document actually says
* move from chat into a deeper reading workflow
