# Uploading Documents

Uploading documents is how you turn Oystack into a research workspace built around your own sources.

## Getting Your Files Ready

1. Locate the **Upload** area (usually found on the main dashboard, sidebar, or specific workspace settings).
2. You can drag and drop files directly onto the interface.
3. Supported formats include PDF, Word Documents, plain text, and more.

## What happens after upload

When you upload a file, Oystack prepares it for use in your workspace.

* **Availability:** Once the file is ready, you can use it in chat, note drafting, and source review workflows.
* **Paper details:** For research papers, Oystack may show additional bibliographic details when they are available.
* **Processing time:** Depending on file size and type, this can take a few moments.

<Note>
  A newly uploaded file may not appear in every workflow immediately. Wait until
  it is ready before using it in chat or citation-based work.
